Drier weather returns today and Thursday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE ” A moist air mass left over from the past few days of rainfall resulted in areas of fog around the basin this morning. This lingering moisture is expected to lift into partly cloudy skies by afternoon with daytime heating. Cloud cover may put a slight damper on daytime temperatures, with highs forecast to reach in the mid 50s this afternoon.

Clearing skies overnight will allow minimum temperatures to drop to the mid 20s in the Basin, with some local areas of freezing fog near Truckee.

Higher pressure building over the area at the surface and aloft will bring more sunshine on Thursday, with highs reaching into the upper 50s around the lake. A moderate temperatures inversion will develop under this high-pressure pattern, with light winds and near seasonal temperatures at lake level.

Above the inversion at the upper elevations, daytime temperatures will warm up into the 60s, with light to moderate east winds along the Sierra crest for the remainder of the week.
