Drunk driver rolls car on 267
October 11, 2001
An alleged drunk driver rolled his car just north of Brockway Summit Sunday afternoon, suffering minor injuries.
The driver, David Holbrook, 33, of Oakland, Calif., had allegedly been involved in a hit and run incident in the parking lot of Las Panchitas restaurant in Kings Beach shortly before the rollover.
The California Highway Patrol charged Holbrook with driving under the influence and hit and run, both misdemeanors, Sunday night after he was released from Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee.
California Highway Patrol received a report of minor property damage to a parked car, the result of a hit and run in the Las Panchitas parking lot at 12:50 p.m. Sunday. Three minutes later at 12:53 p.m., Highway Patrol received a second report of an overturned vehicle near Brockway Summit.
Holbrook was driving a 2001 green Volkswagen Jetta. As of Tuesday morning the accident report had not been released and Highway Patrol had not received the results of the blood-alcohol test administered to Holbrook.
According to witnesses at the scene, Holbrook was traveling at a high rate of speed downhill on 267, passing cars on the left over the double yellow line and on blind corners before losing control and flipping the car. He also reportedly told a CHP officer that a deer ran in front of his car.
