Dry with near-seasonal temperatures this week

LAKE TAHOE ” A dry cold front will push across the area today with partly cloudy skies and winds shifting to the north around 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Daytime highs are forecast to reach the lower to mid 40s around the lake and at the resort levels. Lows tonight will drop into the single digits as cooler air filters into the area under increasing northeast flow.

Northeast winds will usher in cooler temperatures on Wednesday with highs projected to reach the mid to upper 30s at lake level. Gusty northeast winds to 80 mph are forecast along the Sierra crest Wednesday as a strong pressure difference or gradient develops between a cold Nevada surface high pressure systems and lower surface pressure over California enhanced by down slope warming.

Longer range forecast models are now showing an upper level trough of low pressure dropping south from Western Canada into the Tahoe area by Sunday.

This system with its projected over land trajectory will bring colder air and a chance of snow showers Sunday but not a significant snow producer at this time. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing weather system, especially if you have weekend travel plans.
