UPDATE: Chain controls dropped on Truckee-Tahoe highways

Chain controls have been dropped.

Update 9:15 a.m.:

Eastbound I-80 lanes have reopened after a semi overturned near Overland Trail in Truckee Friday morning, Caltrans said.

The National Weather Service says the bulk of the winter storm has passed. However, chain controls are still in effect Friday morning.

Interstate 80:



For eastbound traffic, I-80 is closed at Overland Trail in Truckee due to an overturned vehicle. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Kingvale to Truckee.

For westbound traffic, chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Truckee to 4.7 miles west of Kingvale.

Highway 89:

Chain or snow tires are required from Tahoma to the Junction of I-80.

Highway 28:

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Tahoe City to the Nevada state line.

There are currently no restrictions on highways 20 or 267 as of Friday morning.
