TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Choo Choo Club in Truckee is now accepting enrollment for the new term. Instructed by Dianne Fix, this parent and child class is intended to give young children a preschool enrichment experience and help them to become comfortable in a school setting while having an adult nearby.

The classes are designed to help ready the children for preschool using basic cognitive, seasonal, multicultural and psychological curriculum, including some parent education. Each week will have a different theme with music, art and movement activities appropriate for young children, as well as playtime.

The goal of Choo Choo Club is to give children a love for learning and the confidence in a classroom environment, as well as a positive beginning in socialization with their peers and adults. Developmentally appropriate materials will be available and will change weekly. A 20-minute circle time with literature, music, sign and songs will end each of the morning sessions.

The classes take place on Wednesdays, 9:30-11 a.m., beginning the first week in October and continuing through May, following the TTUSD calendar. Cost is $15 a session paid monthly, $20 for drop in. For enrollment information or further enquiries contact the Truckee-Donner Recreation & Parks District at 530-582-7720 or email

The Choo Choo Club is located at the Truckee Community Recreation Center, 8924 Donner Pass Road.
