Common Core talk to encourage opting out of tests Tuesday at Lake Tahoe

A meeting-discussion about the controversial Common Core State Standards education initiative will take place Tuesday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m., at Incline Village Public Library, 845 Alder Ave.

The Tuesday meeting, entitled “Why You Should Not Let Your Child (grades 3-8) Take the SBAC Exam,” is being put on by Nevadans Against Common Core.

John Eppolito, a Lake Tahoe real estate agent who’s been an ardent critic of Common Core and previous Nevada education initiatives, will speak at Tuesday’s meeting, discussing the “controversy over the student data collection, storage, and sharing among government agencies and private.”

“I will cover why most local educators will not (or cannot) give parents all the facts about these inappropriate exams,” he said in a statement.

Eppolito is also founder of Nevadans Against Common Core.

Schools throughout three states, including Nevada, have reported trouble giving SBAC exams because of computer software failure, he said.

“It appears Nevada will forge ahead with this inappropriate testing no matter how much time is wasted,” he added.

The meeting free and open to the public. Parents in surrounding Washoe communities are encouraged to attend.
