TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees recently appointed Sara Colborn as new principal of Donner Trail Elementary School.

Colborn has been working for the district for more 16 years in multiple roles, including as a seventh-grade English/science teacher, a sixth-grade language arts teacher and as coordinator of the district’s 2014 summer programs.

Currently, Colborn is a Teacher on Special Assignment, working as a full time academic coach for the district.

Effective July 1, Colborn will remain full time, but 40 percent of her time will be as principal at Donner Trail Elementary, and the balance as an academic coach.

Colborn is replacing Suzi Phebus, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

Phebus has been with the school district for more than 35 years; she was the principal of Alder Creek Middle School for nine years, the principal for Donner Trail for 21 years, and she taught for 15 years.

“Suzi Phebus will be greatly missed by TTUSD staff and students, yet we are confident that Sara Colborn’s leadership, enthusiasm, and passion for education will ensure a smooth transition at Donner Trail,” Superintendent Rob Leri said.
