Give Back Tahoe: Big Brothers Big Sisters helps local kids get ahead
TAHOE-TRUCKEE, Calif. — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County makes a positive difference in the lives of children facing adversity through a professionally-supported, one-to-one relationship with a caring and responsible individual.
Mentors lend support to children’s growth and development through nurturing relationships, leading to greater self-confidence, success in school, positive inter-personal relationships, and avoidance of risk-taking behaviors.
In the end, well-supported and guided at-risk youth make for better schools, brighter futures, and a stronger Truckee community for all.
Our agency has a long history of providing quality mentoring services for at-risk children in Nevada County. In January 2008 we opened and staffed a new office in Truckee and began providing services to Truckee and North Lake Tahoe children.
BBBSNC has served over 400 children, ages 6-18, from the Truckee and North Tahoe region since.
BBBSNC’s priority this year is to grow its numbers in North Tahoe and reach out to children in Incline Village. We have a few Incline Village mentors and the schools in Washoe County are excited we will serve their students.
We just need to recruit local mentors from the North Shore, from the West Shore to Incline Village. If you are interested in mentoring, now is the time.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe is so thankful for the community support we received through the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation’s Give Back Tahoe campaign. Without their support and others in the community, mentoring would not exist on our community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe currently hit an all time high of having 41 community-based matches and 13 site based matches with 14 children on the waiting list.
