Give Back Tahoe: Far West Nordic Ski Education Association developing the sport
TRUCKEE, Calif. — Far West Nordic Ski Education Association is all about cross-country skiing. Representing the XC skiing community and developing the sport for skiers of all ages, Far West Nordic offers clinics, races and race series for competitive and recreational skiers of all abilities.
Our aim is to promote the lifelong sport of cross-country skiing and encourage the potential of all athletes involved .
FWNSEA hosts several signature cross-country races and events throughout the year. The Tahoe Rim Tour is a unique point-to-point 26k race from Tahoe City to Truckee. The Billy Dutton Uphill is a tradition for athletes to test their endurance by skiing, snowshoeing or running 3.2 miles from the bottom of Squaw Valley to High Camp.
And Far West Nordic hosts two dinner fundraisers each year — a season “Kick-off” dinner at Cottonwood Restaurant and our annual Far West Auction Party, a true community event with amazing auction items and raffle prizes.
In an effort to promote cross-country skiing, FWNSEA facilitates several series of races. The Sierra Ski Chase, Masters Challenge and the Under-14 Cup were established to encourage race participation and personal goals.
Far West Nordic also plays a large role in Junior cross-country racing in our region. We offer several trips and training camps, which culminates with the Far West Nordic team traveling to Junior Nationals — this year in Telemark, Wis. We also provide grants for “Senior” age skiers between 20 and 29 years old, the Ben Grasseschi Scholarship for coaches’ education and the Ted Beauchamp scholarship for juniors.
Our greatest need, besides snow, is new members. Please consider joining Far West Nordic Ski Education Association or attending one of our races and events throughout the year, so we can uphold our mission of developing the sport of cross-country skiing.
