Incline Elementary earns grant from Bessie Minor Swift Foundation
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The Bessie Minor Swift Foundation awards grants to programs that promote literacy, reading and writing skills as well as programs that focus on the arts, languages and sciences.
The deadline for 2015 grant applications was February 15, and more than 200 applications were received.
This year, more than $67,000 was awarded to 33 deserving organizations, including Incline Elementary School.
The school’s STREAM Club project earned a $2,542 grant, allowing for students to explore science, technology, reading, engineering, art and math, all focused on an outdoors water/nature theme.
Since 2008, the Bessie Minor Swift Foundation, formed by the owners and founder of Swift Communications, has awarded more than $300,000 to organizations in the communities where Swift conducts business.
Swift owns the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza, Sierra Sun and several other newspapers in the Sierra Nevada and across other Western resort markets.
