Learning new ways to monitor hazards at Lake Tahoe
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center invites the community to join Dr. Graham Kent of the University of Nevada, Reno to learn about ALERT Tahoe.
ALERT Tahoe is a new, one-of-a-kind, fire camera and multi-hazard tracking system that includes smoke investigation, prescribed fire oversight, wildfire tracking, earthquake early warning, and monitoring of extreme weather events, according to a press release.
A prototype of the fire camera system already is functioning, scoring early successes during the summer of 2014, according to UC Davis.
Join Kent with the UNR Seismological Laboratory for a presentation on the existing and proposed camera system.
The program begins at 6 p.m. (happy hour begins at 5:30) Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences building on the campus of Sierra Nevada College at 291 Country Club Drive in Incline Village.
