The Tahoe-Truckee community has a great history of supporting our high school graduates with scholarships to continue their education.
This year, North Tahoe High School, Tahoe Truckee High School and Sierra High School graduates received more than $274,550 in scholarships from local foundations, non-profits, community organizations and individual trusts.
If you add together the local and out-of-district scholarships from universities, the military, and other national organizations, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District graduates received more than $1,319,595.00 in reported scholarships. This is a true recognition of our phenomenal community and the achievements of our terrific scholars.
Many different community organizations support our scholars, including the Tahoe Truckee Community Scholarship Committee, an umbrella organization that receives funding from various local organizations and individuals.
Scholarships are not awarded based on academic excellence alone — extracurricular activities, community service and need are all important criteria.
The Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation awarded $42,000 in scholarships this year. TTHS graduate Lacey Moore, who plans to attend Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, received TMRF’s top award of $30,000.
Patrick McElravey, who was NTHS’s ASB president, received a $10,000 scholarship from TMRF. McElravey will attend Middlebury College in Vermont where he will compete on their Nordic ski team.
Olivia Duner, president of classroom mentoring for TTHS’s Envirolution Club, received $28,000 from the Alpine Winter Foundation Scholarship to help her attend Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where she plans to study animal science.
Sierra High School graduate Cindy Rodriguez received the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation’s Cameron and Jane Baird Scholarship of $2,500. She plans to study criminal justice administration, starting off in Truckee at Sierra College after completing an internship with the Nevada County Probation Department. Mariana Jimenez, president of La Raza, a club for Latino students at TTHS, received a Cameron and Jane Baird Scholarship for $10,000. She will attend UC-San Diego.
