TAHOE-TRUCKEE, Calif. — Teachers today are so much more than educators. They are amazing people who make a positive impact in the lives of our students. Despite complicated dynamics that may exist in a classroom, they have the ability to bring calm, learning success, fun and order to our students so they can be successful.

Is there an educator or staff member who comes to mind who goes above and beyond to ensure your child has a positive educational experience every day? Do you know a teacher who creates innovative programs, is an encouraging mentor or is gifted in inspiring a love of learning? Is there a bus driver who regularly saves the day? Is there a front office person who always has an answer to your questions or a solution to your problem?

If so, the Excellence in Education Foundation encourages you to nominate them for the 2016-2017 Linda Brown Fellows Award or the Star Award. These annual awards promote and acknowledge superior excellence in education.

The honor is given to remarkable teachers and staff members who consistently go “above and beyond” and bring innovation, originality, creativity and passion to their classroom. The Star Award recognizes classified employees who positively impact the lives of the students by providing exceptional support to their school.

Award recipients not only receive praise from the Foundation, their community, and peers, but Fellows Award recipients each receive $2,000 to be used to enhance educational work in the classroom. In addition, both Fellows Award recipients and Star Award recipients are given $1,000 for their personal use.

“Teachers aren’t always recognized for all they do for our children,” explains Laura Brown, Executive Director of the Excellence in Education Foundation. “It is so heartwarming to read the nomination forms and learn how amazing so many of our educators are. Yet, there are many more deserving of recognition.

“We really hope people will take the time to help identify these special teachers and staff members by nominating them.”

Nomination forms are available at all district schools and online at ExinEd.org. The deadline for turning in the nomination forms is Thursday, May 5. The 2016-2017 recipients are announced in the fall.
