North Tahoe senior advancing to Rotary music finals

On Wednesday, April 22, the Rotary Clubs of Incline Village hosted the Rotary Area 3 solo instrumental music and speech contests at the Cornerstone Community Church in Incline.

Six musicians from Incline Village, Truckee and Tahoe City competed. In a closely judged contest, Grace Lindemann, a North Tahoe High senior, prevailed as the winner, with a difficult and entertaining clarinet solo.

Lindemann was accompanied by Donna Axton on piano. Ryan Heisinger, also from North Tahoe High, took second-place honors playing trombone.

The three top finishers each received cash awards. Lindemann will advance to the Rotary District Championship at Harrah’s on the South Shore on May 16 at 2:30 p.m.

She will compete against nine other solo musicians, from Rotary District 5190, for prize money of $1,000 for first, $750 for second and $500 for third.

Kyla Pierce, a North Tahoe High sophomore, competed in the earlier speech contest and placed third.

Rotary District 5190 consists of 54 clubs in northeastern California and northern Nevada.
