Tahoe Garden Club doles out three $1,000 scholarships

Special to the Sun

Lake of the Sky Garden Club recently awarded three $1,000 scholarships to encourage and promote study in landscaping, horticulture, forestry or environmental science.

This scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors, recent graduates, anyone currently enrolled or planning to attend college in one of the above areas of study, and nursery employees desiring to further their horticulture education.

Applicants must be permanent residents of North Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Incline Village or the West Shore.

This year's scholarship recipients are Lynne Hickman, graduating from North Tahoe High School; and Nicole Rathbun and Hannah Hamilton, graduating from Truckee High School.

Funds for this scholarship are raised each summer through the efforts of all club members by hosting the Lake of the Sky Annual Garden Tour, which will be held Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

This year's tour will include eight high-altitude gardens featuring an artist in each garden. Tickets are on sale at all local nurseries. Plan to buy your tickets early as this tour frequently sells out.
