Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation donates $340,000 in grants, scholarships
February 16, 2016
TRUCKEE, Calif. — Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation recently announced it has awarded more than $340,000 in grants and scholarships in 2016 that will support 35 Tahoe-Truckee area nonprofit organizations and programs, local students and community events.
Organizations the foundation has contributed to through its annual grant cycle exemplify the Foundation's commitment to improving the quality of life in the Tahoe-Truckee community, with a special focus on local youth and environmental programs.
"Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation is pleased to award one of its top grants of $50,000 to the Northstar Community Services District in 2016 for continuation of the Martis Valley Trail," said Blake Riva, chairman of the Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation Board of Directors. "Connecting the neighborhoods in Truckee and Northstar by way of a multi-use trail supports our community's vision of encouraging people to get out of their cars to enjoy the phenomenal recreational opportunities available in the region."
Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation is supported through a dedicated funding source in real estate transfer fees that have allowed the organization to maintain ongoing support of important community programs.
"Ongoing support from TMRF over the years has helped us to get closer to our goal of completing a community supported trail that connects Truckee and Northstar," said Mike Staudenmayer, General Manager of the Northstar Community Services District. "This significant contribution will allow us to further develop the third section of the Martis Valley Trail this summer."
In addition to nonprofits, the foundation also awards annual scholarships to students interested in furthering their education. Last year, $50,500 in scholarships were awarded to graduating Truckee High School students Eli Yale, Zoe Peterson and Jacob Hamilton.
