Tahoe-Truckee Lib Loop: Extinction of the Shhh’ing Librarian
Special to the Sun
I received a call the other day from a gentleman looking for a small meeting room to have a one-on-one meeting with a client.
The Incline Village Library has a large meeting room, but not a small one. I explained this to him, and although he could have reserved it, it was just way too large for his purpose.
Librarians have this “need to please” and never want to turn anyone, or any question away. In fact most of us will keep researching your questions long after you leave.
We MUST find the answer – it’s in our DNA. So, since I couldn’t turn him away, I told him we have several cozy nooks throughout the library that he is more than welcome to use.
He said to me, “Thank you, but we will need to converse.” I said, “ok, that’s not a problem.” He said, with great shock and awe, “You mean we can talk in the library? We don’t have to whisper?!?”
ARRRRR!! I hate this misconception! Yes! Most definitely! Please come in and talk in a normal inside voice. Share stories. Share ideas. Laugh. Talk about the latest greatest book you read, or movie you watched.
Whatever you do, don’t come in whispering! The Shhh’ing Librarian has gone extinct. Thank God!
