Tahoe-Truckee Lib Loop: November 13 is Sadie Hawkins Day

Was Al Capp ahead of his time with the Li’l Abner comic, in inventing Sadie Hawkins Day?

The girls called the shots when they foot-raced to claim the bachelors, and though not many of us partake in this activity now, we do have access to 21st century versions of the notion at our libraries. Check out such titles as:

The Only Woman in the Room: Why Science is Still a Boys Club, Eileen Pollack, about women scientists’ experiences today;

Unfinished Business: Equality for Women and Men, Work and Family, Anne-Marie Slaughter, a new look at the women’s movement where both men and women can advance;

Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman, Lindy West, a humorous examination of life as a woman;

Fight Like a Girl: 50 Feminists Who Changed the World, Laura Barcella, a young adult look into women who have paved the way to equality.

As ever, we are ready to help you at your local library to explore this and other topics — don’t be a stranger, come in to discover our banquets of resources, entertainment and activities.
