Tahoe-Truckee Lib Loop: Summer Reading Program still going strong

Can you believe we’re just about halfway through summer? This means we are halfway through our Summer Reading Program over here at the Incline Village Library.

We’ve had some voracious readers racking up points toward some pretty awesome grand prizes! It isn’t too late, and no, you are not too old, to sign up to get your read on this summer!

Go ahead and sign up at washoecountylibrary.readsquared.com. Read for 300 minutes — get 300 points and earn an entry for a chance at some great prizes.

We’ll wrap it all up on August 31st at 4 p.m. with a celebration party at Preston Field with piñatas, popcorn, ice cream, games, face painting, and much more. See you at the library!

Incline Village:

July 13, 4 p.m. Up, Up & Away with Mad Science. A spectacular 45 minute show featuring Mad Science hot air balloons, floating beach balls, and sneezing dinosaurs.

July 16, noon to 5 p.m. Book Sale! Great bargains on hundreds of books, audio books, DVDs, and CDs. All proceeds stay at the Incline Village Library.

July 20, 4 p.m. Nevada Bugs & Butterflies Bug Petting Zoo. This touch and feel program includes fun facts about where bugs live, what they eat, and other aspects of their lives. Interactive & family fun!

Kings Beach:

July 13, 3-4 p.m. “Science with Liz” Entomologist Liz Morrill leads a backyard exploration the local insect population. Meet our buggy neighbors up close!

July 14, 2-3 p.m. “Cloud Basics. Where’s my stuff?” Come learn all about Cloud storage for your digital data.

July 15, 2-3 p.m. “Batty for Bats” What makes these wonderful creatures of the night so unique? Bat expert Cork Quirk of NorCal bats brings bats to see up close.

July 19, 10:30-11 a.m. “Preschool Storytime.” Join us as we explore a Bear theme. Books, songs, felt board, rhymes and a craft.


Win a Kindle Fire! Now through the end of July, when you come in for your first library card at the Truckee Library, you’ll enter a drawing for a free Kindle Fire. Thanks to the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries (West County) for providing the tablets.

Summer readers may still sign up at the Truckee Library for the Summer Reading Program. Come in for your Read for the Win Bingo card or Froggy Reading Game. For ages 3-12, pre-readers and independent readers.

July 20, 4 p.m. Music with Alan Candee. Summer readers are invited to join musician Alan Candee for stories, singing and laughing with folksongs and original tunes. Bring in your Reading Bingo cards and Froggy Reading Games to show your summer reading progress.

Pre-School Storytimes at the Truckee Library are on a special summer schedule: Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m., through July 28.
