TRUCKEE, Calif. — Truckee High School’s 18-piece Festival Jazz Band, directed by Mr. Jesse Steele, traveled to Sacramento on Dec. 12 to perform at California State University Sacramento’s Winter Jazz Festival.

Truckee’s scholar-musicians performed in this non-competitive, educational festival where clinicians provide constructive commentary through verbal feedback.

Truckee High’s Festival Band performed “Nicole,” “In a Mellow Tone” and “Seven Steps To Heaven.” Jazz Band Member Kevin Cross played a beautiful feature solo on flugelhorn on the ballad, “Nicole.”

The 2015-167 Festival Band is an extraordinarily dedicated group of students who meet outside of class time to practice their music.

Truckee High’s Jazz Combo Group also played three pieces at the festival — “Red Clay,” “Deluge” and “Armageddon.”
