Thirty-seven members of the Truckee High Jazz Band traveled to Folsom, Calif., in late January for the 26th annual Folsom Jazz Festival.

Folsom Jazz Festival, the largest jazz competition in the state, is a gathering of more than 100 high school and middle school jazz bands, vocal jazz choirs, and jazz ensembles from all over California and Nevada.

This year, Truckee High Jazz Band students, directed by Mr. Jesse Steele, played early in the morning and wowed their audience with three pieces: “Dizzy Atmosphere,” which featured trumpet solos by Zarek Livak and Brandon Phung; “Brother Mister,” featuring a flute solo by J.P.Eikam and a drum solo by Bennett Ariza’ and a stunning rendition of “Sapphire Eyes,” featuring soloist Lucas Rohlf on alto saxophone.

Truckee High’s Jazz Band placed third in their division at this event.
