Efficient energy use focus of weekend events

Staff reports

This weekend Truckee will think solar, with the annual Truckee Solar Home Tour and the Truckee Energy Forum, both on Saturday.

The annual Truckee Solar Home Tour will be Saturday, Oct. 13, held in conjunction with the national American Solar Energy Society’s Tour of Solar Homes.

The tour will take participants on a look at energy-smart home and buildings in the Truckee area. Among the ideas featured will be high-efficiency measures and appliances, rammed earth homes, geothermal heat pump installations and passive and active solar and wind systems.

The bus tour will begin at the KidZone next to Tahoe-Truckee High School. There will be an afternoon and a morning tour.

Registration for both begins at 7:30 a.m. For information about the Solar Home Tour, call Rick Solinsky at 587-1920.

There will also be a Truckee Energy Forum, held at the Truckee KidZone, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The forum will feature presentations, demonstration and exhibits by people and businesses in the area who use alternative sources of energy.

The forum is co-sponsored by the Town of Truckee and the Truckee Donner Public Utility District.

For more information about the energy forum, call Scott Terrell, TDPUD at 582-3931.

Both events will act as a fund-raiser for the KidZone project.
