Ehle, Richard "Dick"

Dick Ehle, 80, of Truckee, passed away on Aug. 15, 2007, with his wife, Anne, by his side. He was the youngest of eight children born to Catherine and Carl Ehle in Duluth, Minn., on Jan. 14, 1927.
Dick worked for his father in Duluth at the Golden Horseshoe bar and restaurant and graduated from Duluth High School in 1945. Shortly after the end of World War II, he and his parents moved to San Mateo, Calif. He worked for Spreckels Dairy in San Mateo as a regional advertising and product display agent.
Dick went on to own and operate restaurants in San Mateo, Hayward, Walnut Creek, Oakland and Garland, Texas. In 1965, Dick and his partner, Milt Van Duyn, opened the Red Rooster Restaurant in Walnut Creek and operated the successful dinner house for almost 14 years, until it was sold in 1979. In 1980 he opened the Oakland House Restaurant in Oakland, Calif. In 1983 he sold the Oakland House Restaurant and moved to the Dallas, Texas area, where he purchased and operated a restaurant for several years.
Dick retired from the restaurant industry in 1987 and moved to Guadalajara, Mexico where he resided until 1992. Upon returning to California he accepted a job as the General Manager of the San Francisco Fly Casting Club in Truckee, Calif., where he has since worked and resided.
Dick loved to play games and often traveled to Reno for fun and relaxation. He was a long-term member of the Walnut Creek Optimist Club and served as a board member and as the chair of Diablo Valley College’s Restaurant/Hotel Management advisory committee.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen; his brothers, James and Donald; his sisters Adeline, Dorothy, Lucille and Helen. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anne, of Truckee; his sister Mary Billand of Rohnert Park; his son Richard Ehle. Jr. and daughter-in-law Yvonne of Aptos; son Patrick Ehle of Ft. Worth, Texas; son Todd Ehle of Anaheim, Calif.; step-son Danny Larscheid of New Orleans, La.; his grandchildren, Arik, Adam, Emma and Alaina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
