Election 2010: Propositions 19, 23 in trouble, poll shows

SACRAMENTO, Calif. and#8212;A new poll finds the attempt to make California the first state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana is floundering just days before voters head to the polls.

The Field Poll released Sunday finds 49 percent of likely voters oppose Proposition 19, while just 42 percent support it.

Also struggling is Proposition 23, the initiative that would suspend California’s greenhouse gas emissions law. It has support from just 33 percent of likely voters and is opposed by 48 percent.

Proposition 25, which would reduce the vote requirement for passing a state budget from two-thirds to a simple majority, is leading 48 percent to 31 percent.

The telephone survey of 1,092 likely voters was conducted Oct. 14-26 and has a margin of sampling error of 3.2 percentage points.
