Election 2010: School district appoints new trustee in Mohun’s stead
November 2, 2010
TRUCKEE, Calif. – After a drought of qualified candidates, school district trustees have found someone to fill the board’s last uncontested seat, appointing the position within two weeks of the Tuesday, Nov. 2, deadline.
On Oct. 20, the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Gaylan Larson, filling the vacant seat of former Area 4 Trustee Lisa Mohun, who resigned due to relocation. A lack of candidates to file by election deadlines in August pushed the district into a “Failure to Elect” status, requiring an appointed trustee before Election Day.
Larson, who’s had a home in Truckee the past 21 years – living in town permanently for last seven – said he hopes to add his managerial skills gained at various start-up companies to the board.
Larson will join Kim Szczurek and Dianna Driller on the TTUSD board on Dec. 8. Szczurek and Driller ran uncontested for TTUSD board positions in the November elections. The new trustees will fill a four-year term.
The following is a conversation with Larson and Switchback Public Relations regarding his new appointment and goals for the district.
