Election 2010: School district, other boards still in need of candidates by Aug. 6
TRUCKEE/TAHOE, Calif. andamp;#8212; With the Friday, Aug. 6, filing deadline fast approaching, a number of races are still without enough candidates andamp;#8212; and some have none at all.Hopeful candidates have until next Friday to pick up forms in Nevada County at either the Nevada County Elections office in the Eric Rood Administrative Center at 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City, by appointment at the Truckee Town Clerkandamp;#8217;s Office, located at 10183 Truckee Airport Road or online at mynevadacounty.com/elections. In Placer County, they are available at the Nevada County Elections office at 2956 Richardson Drive, Auburn, or online at http://www.placerelections.com. For El Dorado County, call the elections department at (530) 621-7480 for information on how to file.Within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, according to the Placer County Elections office Candidate Watch, there are still no candidates who have applied for the three trustee seats available, seats 1, 4, and 5, currently held by Pat Gibbons-Johnson, Lisa Mohun and Bev Ducey, respectively.With Ducey still undecided whether or not sheandamp;#8217;ll run for office, Gibbons-Johnson announcing she does not intend to run and Mohun ineligible to run due to relocation outside her area boundaries, it remains to be seen if any candidates will step up for the positions.Per state law, should no incumbents file by for the seats by the deadline, the time to file will be extended by one week.While Victor Hernandez and James Herzman have declared their intentions to run for the Truckee Fire Protection District Board, only incumbent Joseph Straub has filed, according to a list of filed candidates from the Nevada County Elections Office Thursday, with Ben Malone and Gary Watersandamp;#8217; seats also open in November.In Truckeeandamp;#8217;s town council race, only incumbent Mark Brown has filed. Mayor Carolyn Wallace Dee and Vice Mayor Richard Andersonandamp;#8217;s seats are also open.Within Placer Countyandamp;#8217;s the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, only Donald Hale has filed for the district 4 seat. There have been no candidate filings for either the North Tahoe Public Utility Districtandamp;#8217;s two seats or the Tahoe City Public Utility Districtandamp;#8217;s two seats.Incumbents Roger Kahn and Ken Cutler have filed for two of the four seats on the Tahoe Forest Hospital District; incumbents Ron Hemig and Tony Laliotis have filed for their two seats on the Truckee Donner Public Utility District Board; and incumbents Ron Sweet and Jerry Gilmore have filed for two of the three seats at the Truckee Sanitary District, according to Nevada County Elections.No one has filed for the four seats at the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District, two seats at the Truckee Tahoe Airport District, or at the Donner Summit Public Utility District.On the West Shore, the El Dorado County Sheriffandamp;#8217;s Office figures to be a hot race. Craig Therkildsen and John Dandamp;#8217;Agostini totaled more than 22 percent of the countyandamp;#8217;s 46,623 votes andamp;#8212; Therkildsen 22.89 percent, Dandamp;#8217;Agostini 25.67 percent andamp;#8212; in the June 8 primary, qualifying them to run in this Novemberandamp;#8217;s race, according to a spokesman from the county elections office.
