Election 2010: Three incumbents, another trustee interested in another Parks and Rec term

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Last year marked a major milestone for the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District with the opening of the new Community Recreation Center.

But for three board of trustees incumbents and#8212; Kevin Murphy, John Pruyn and Peter Werbel and#8212; and newly appointed trustee John Monson up for election in November 2010, thatand#8217;s just the beginning.

and#8220;With the opening of the community center such a success, I want to work on more projects following on that,and#8221; said Murphy, who plans to run again in November. and#8220;Specifically, the performing arts and aquatics centers.and#8221;

Werbel said the theater and#8212; which would be built at the districtand#8217;s current Church Street location and#8212; and an aquatics center at the new community center are also at the top of his list.

and#8220;At this point it is my intent to run again and#8212; we have unfinished business,and#8221; Werbel said.

Pruyn also plans to run, and he said work at West End Beach on Donner Lake is another important project.

and#8220;The ongoing discussion about the inequality of mitigation funds not flowing across from Placer County is also a big one,and#8221; said Pruyn, referring to the fact the district isnand#8217;t funded by taxes from Placer County users and#8212; only Nevada County residents within the district.

Monson, who was appointed to the board about a month ago, said he would like to stay on for another term.

He said he is an avid user of all the districtand#8217;s parks and facilities, and thinks his marketing expertise will be good for the board.
