Embezzlement alleged at Truckee business

Records and computers were seized from Vacation Property Management of Truckee last week in response to a complaint about possible embezzlement.

Truckee Police officers began their investigation on March 5 in response to several clients who reported that the real property management company in Truckee owed them money, according to police reports.

A search warrant was served at the business on March 13, but officers have yet to process all the evidence and determine the full extent of losses and total number of victims, according to a press release from the department.

“We did secure a number of their computers and are looking for evidence from their business records,” said Lt. Harwood Mitchell. “That is potentially going to be a can of worms for accounting and detail analysis.”

The Truckee Police department is working with other investigative and regulatory agencies to determine whether owners or employees of Vacation Property Management are guilty.

“We’ve taken calls from clients that have not received rental money, but we really don’t know where we stand and who, if any, employees have been involved,” Mitchell said.

Vacation Property Management is still open for business at 12047 Donner Pass Road, Suite B5, in the Factory Outlet center.
