Sierra Speaker Series at Donner Memorial State Park

The Sierra Speaker Series is back with a live show about Captain George Whittell, Jr. at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Donner Memorial State Park. 

This live historical character reenactment will be happening at the Vistior’s Center with the presentation beginning at 5:30 p.m. 



A $5 donation for admission is suggested. Light refreshments will be available. 

Whittell Jr. was at once the richest man in American but never worked a day in his life. He owned 27 miles of the east shore of Lake Tahoe where he built the fabulous Thunderbird Lodge, captained the Thunderbird yacht, and piloted his DC-2 Thunderbird.

Logging Railroads Trestle Tour at Hobart Estate 

Join the Truckee Donner Railroad Society for a driving and hiking tour of old logging railroad grades, collapsed trestles, remains of log cars, and much more. 

This event will be happening from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, July 16. Participants will meet at the corner of Roundhouse Way and the Donner Pass Road Extension in front of the rotary snow plow and wrecking crane. 

There is now charge, but guest must RSVP at tours@tdrrs.org

There will be maps, old photos, and stories to help guests imagine what it was like to be a Truckee logger 100 years ago. 

Music in the Park in Truckee 

Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District are presenting Music in the Park every Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Truckee Regional “Salty” Gebhardt Amphitheater.
The next show, which is free with donations welcome, will feature Everyday Outlaw on Wednesday, July 19. 

There is no smoking and now dogs at these shows. Picnics are welcome, but glass is not allowed. Please make sure to supervise children at all times.

Music at the Beach in Kings Beach 

The North Tahoe Business Association is proud to present their 17th annual Music on the Beach summer concert series at 6:30 p.m. Friday Nights, with the next show set for Friday, July 14, at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. 

This free music series is dedicated to Pam Emmerich, who was essential to the creation and development of Music on the Beach as well as the growth of the North Tahoe Business Association. 

This Friday, Buddy Emmer Blues Band will be performing. This long time favorite blues act in the Northern Nevada music scene have hosted shows at Harrah’s South Lake Tahoe for the last 11 years backing up some of the finest blues acts in the country.

Tam’s Record Sale & Swap is back at Alibi Ale Works Truckee Public House at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 26. 

You can swap or purchase epic records from Tam’s massive vinyl collection. 

Disco Cat will be their spinning records and bringing the grooviest vibes. There will be great tunes, great food, including pizza from the new pizza oven available for purchase, and great beer.
