LAKE TAHOE — The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is offering guided educational and historical winter snowshoe treks for the upcoming winter season.

These treks vary in difficulty and distance. Contact TRTA, and volunteers can help determine which trek is most appropriate. There are snowshoes available for those who contact in advance.

“Snowshoeing is a great way to get exercise, allows for amazing photography, and reveals another side of Tahoe,” according to a TRTA press release. “Take advantage of these treks to gain skills and grow your confidence.”

Registration is required in advance, and typically opens a month before the program date.

The first trek is scheduled for Dec. 13 and is a stargazing tour with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science. It’s listed as an “easy” hike, at just a half-mile.

The Geminid Meteor Shower will make its appearance during this time, and it’s expected trekkers will see many shooting stars throughout the night.

Guides will bring trekkers into Tahoe Meadows to relax and gaze at the sky as Doug Klotz, from the local nonprofit Space Science for Schools, illuminates the mysteries of the night.

Visit and check out TRTA’s events calendar, or click here to learn more about the upcoming hikes.
