Major forest overhaul project planned south of Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Truckee Ranger District on the Tahoe National Forest is proposing a forest restoration, fuels reduction, and recreation improvement project south of Truckee.

The general location of the proposed “Big Jack East Project” treatment areas are along and near Forest Road 06, also known as the Sawtooth Road — west of Martis Valley, and east of Highway 89 South.

The U.S. Forest Service will hold a public informational meeting on the project at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Truckee Tahoe Airport, 10356 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee.

“The meeting will start with a presentation … followed by a question and answer period,” officials said. :Topics will include: fire history in the area, a brief history of previous vegetation treatments, a description of proposed vegetation treatments, proposed fuels reduction treatments, and proposed recreation improvements.”
