TAHOE CITY, Calif. — The final environmental impact report was released May 3 for the proposed Martis Valley West development plan.

The project proposes 760 residential units in Martis Valley on 662 acres, west of Highway 267 and outside of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Martis Valley West Specific Plan consists of two components: a west parcel and an east parcel. The west parcel consists of 1,052 acres; the east parcel contains 6,373 acres.

The entire Martis Valley West Project is 100 percent within the Martis Valley; no portion is within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

“NTRAC is expected to vote on a recommendation on the Martis Valley West proposal at Thursday’s meeting, which would be forwarded to the Placer County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.”

The plan would transfer the rights to build residential and commercial development from the east parcel to the west parcel.

The west parcel is located southeast of the Northstar Resort and east of Sawmill Reservoir. The east parcel is located on forested land that has been already been harvested for timber.

According to previous reports, a yet-to-be-determined public hearing will occur before the Placer County Planning Commission, likely later this spring, which will provide a project recommendation. The Placer County Board of Supervisors will also hold a public hearing before making the final ruling, likely sometime this summer.

Prior to that, the project will be presented to the North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council on Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m. at the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board Room at 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.
