TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — While snow is falling more regularly on Donner Summit, tree ring studies suggest the state of California is in the grips of a historic drought.

In light of that reality, Sugar Bowl Academy’s ninth/10th-grade Off Piste/Leave No Trace advisory group invites students, parents, and the public to attend a community screening of the award-winning Robert Redford documentary, “WATERSHED,” at Sugar Bowl Resort’s Village Hall on Feb. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

This is a free event designed to coalesce the Sugar Bowl Academy and greater Truckee communities around what the documentary calls “a new water ethic for the New West.”

Sugar Bowl Academy and Sugar Bowl Ski Resort join Stanford University and the Festival Internacional de Cine del Medio Ambiente in Madrid, Spain as a few of the sites scheduling community screenings in February of this significant and, ultimately, hopeful look at the past, present, and future of western water issues.

Following the film, Steven Poncelet of the Truckee Donner Public Utility District will offer his perspectives on water issues in the Martis Valley region, and provide an overview of some practical water-saving tools available in local hardware stores.
