Tahoe City looking for big turnout to tackle trash for weekend cleanup

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Local residents are banding together to tackle trash in Tahoe City, as part of a region wide clean-up effort across North Lake Tahoe and Truckee on Saturday, June 6.

This regional event offer locals and visitors a chance to pitch in to keep North Tahoe towns and neighborhoods beautiful. It includes group events, disposal programs and, of course, after-parties.

“The Tahoe City Downtown Association is dedicated to producing events that bring the community together, but also give back to our majestic Lake Tahoe environment. We are proud to join this effort in here in Tahoe City,” said Stacie Lyans, Executive Director of the Tahoe City Downtown Association.

The Tahoe City Clean Up Day event will run 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. — volunteers and sponsors are needed.

Volunteers will check in at Tahoe City’s Commons Beach picnic tables by 9 a.m. to enjoy breakfast snacks and pick up materials, a volunteer T-shirt and a free lunch ticket for the after-party.

Then, volunteers will be assigned to one of five sections of Tahoe City to pick up trash. Accompanied children are welcome. Preregistration is recommended.

In 2014, more than 30 volunteers collected 29 garbage bags across Tahoe City, but 2015 is expected to be a much bigger clean-up event for Tahoe City.

TCDA is encouraging all volunteers to walk or ride bicycles to the event. Walkers and bicycle riders will receive a raffle ticket for fun prizes.
