Truckee’s Sawtooth trail cleanup event set for Saturday

TRUCKEE, Calif. — Truckee’s Sawtooth trail is one of the most popular mountain biking and day hiking trails in the region.

Without regular tail maintenance, however, this heavily traveled trail would likely lose its natural beauty and become too overgrown to enjoy.

With that in mind, Truckee businesses Tahoe Mountain Guides, Tahoe Sports Hub, and Cyclepaths have partnered with the Truckee Trails Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service to host a trail cleanup day on Saturday, May 2.

Community members are invited to participate from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Volunteers will spend the day working as a team to perform basic trail maintenance during an event originally spearheaded by Tahoe Mountain Guides, who currently serve as the stewards of the Sawtooth trail.

“Sawtooth trail is in our backyard, we all use it and should all take part in keeping it clean and usable for the community,” Ken Long, owner of Tahoe Mountain Guides, said in a statement. “Tahoe Mountain Guides is proud to be the steward of this trail we hope the community will join us with this trail cleanup.”

All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, long sleeves and pants, and are encouraged to bring plenty of water for personal hydration.

Volunteers will be treated to a complimentary lunch from Diego’s Mexican Restaurant and a post cleanup thank-you party at the trail head.

Volunteers must pre-register and sign a waiver in order to participate. More information can be found at or by emailing
