Environmental consultant hired for development plan

The economic impact report is still in the works, but the town council recently hired a consultant to get he ball rolling on an environmental impact report for a project proposed for Planned Community 3 (PC-3).

“[The project applicant] has requested that staff initiate the environmental review process along with selection of a consultant,” said Town Planner Duane Hall.

The 100-acre swath of land known as PC-3 is located next to the Truckee Tahoe Airport off Highway 267. The summary plan for the property was submitted in 2001 and incorporates commercial, multi-family residential and industrial use development. A grocery store is also planned for the property.

Hall said the largest portion of the EIR will be dedicated to visual and aesthetic impacts and traffic.

Although the economic analysis is not finished, Community Development Director Tony Lashbrook said there really are no surprises in the study so far.

“It really didn’t identify any impacts on the downtown businesses,” he said.

Hall said he expects the applicants to submit a specific plan for the project soon.

“We’re probably looking at a year [long] process once the specific plan is submitted,” Hall said.
