Environmentalists sue EPA over California air plan

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) ” Two environmental groups are filing suit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, claiming the federal government didn’t do enough to ensure that all Californians enjoy clean air.

The Natural Resources Defense Council and a nonprofit from the San Joaquin Valley say the government never made sure that people living in the smoggiest air basins were protected under the state’s pollution reduction plans.

The suit filed Monday in federal court in San Francisco says the EPA failed to rule on important pieces of the state’s clean air plan.

The agency didn’t immediately return calls.
