Event nets substantial profit

The fifth annual Duck Races, sponsored by the Truckee Sunrise Rotary Club, was a complete success this past Saturday, raising well enough money to front the “bill.”

The event sold 5,000 tickets for individual ducks and 56 sponsor ducks – priced at $100 apiece – and brought in a total of over $25,000.

After expenses, the Rotary Club netted a profit of about $18,500.

Profits will go towards school sholarships, exchange student support, local sports and recreation groups and community organizations.

Additionally, the event provided a host of activities for people of the Truckee community.

Truckee locals pocketed the duck race prizes this year. Ron Hemig’s duck came in first place, awarding him $4,000. Don Estabrook’s duck took second and Chuck Raley’s duck claimed third, winning them $500 and $250, respectively.

The Sponsor Duck Race was won by the Law Offices of Brent Collinson. Claiming second was Fidelity Title, with third place going to, TSRC.

Donner Ski Ranch won the best of show award for its duck design. Eagle Mortgage won the most creative and Sierra Pet Clinic won the Funniest award with their “Lame Duck.”
