Family Fun Night at the Family Resource Center of Truckee
A night of family fun generally involves food, games and laughter.
On Friday the 13 of February, families enjoyed just that at the Sierra Mountain Community Education Center during the Family Resource Center’s third monthly Family Fun Night.
Luckily, the snowy afternoon did not keep families away. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a free, hot, delicious and nutritious meal followed by exciting games, good music and good times?
The evening began with board games and music. Putumayo’s compilation CD, Women of Latin America, played song after song to inspire, relax and encourage conversation. Once dinner was announced, the scene shifted to eating, sharing and chatting.
The meal was generously donated by Tacos Jalisco and included freshly made pico de gallo, whole beans, corn tortillas and a delicious sauteed chicken known as tinga de pollo ” perfectly seasoned and flavored. It was a hit! There were also chips and salsa, fresh baby carrots and yummy Clementine oranges.
Then it was off to the gymnasium, where Pete Christian from the Truckee Donner Parks and Recreation District told us the rules of Dodgeball. We learned five different ways to play it; a favorite (especially for the kids) was Scatter ball. Laughter and movement ensued as parents and children alike competed to be Dodge ball “masters.” The night ended with our traditional door prize “raffle” in which three lucky families walked away with simple yet greatly appreciated prizes. It was another successful and fun filled evening for young and not-so-young alike!
The FRC of Truckee would like to acknowledge its gratitude to Don Rigoberto and everyone at Tacos Jalisco for the delicious meal and generous donation. We are reminded of the generous community spirit we are blessed with by living in Truckee.
We would also like to extend a great big thank you! to Pete for being our official Dodgeball expert and referee. We learned so much from you and look forward to playing together again!
If you would like to join us for Family Fun Night next month, please note that it will change to the last Friday of the month.
Next Family Fun Night will be Friday, March 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
