TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; The Family Resource Center of Truckee presents Spring Classes for Early Learners, ages birth to 5 and their parents. All classes are either free or offer scholarships. New class: Just for ToddlersEarly Language and Learning for mobile crawlers and walkers, ages 9-24 months and their parents. This active, fun and thematic class centers on age-appropriate vocabulary and concept development, receptive and expressive language development and acquisition of basic concepts/ pre-academic skills. Activities will include songs, story time, facilitated language and cognition-based activities, socialization and parent discussion. Bilingual activities will be incorporated. Taught by Quinn McDowell, M.A. CCC-SLP, Speech and Language Pathologist, and Stephanie Libby, Credentialed Teacher/Early Educator, the 8-week series will begin on Thursday, April 14, 4 p.m. at the Truckee Donner Recreation andamp; Park District Community Arts Center on Church Street in Downtown Truckee. Cost is $96. Scholarships are available.GymtimeThere will be four more Open Gymtimes on Mondays andamp;#8212; April 10 through May. Gymtime is a free, weekly, drop-in opportunity for socialization and active play with developmental toys and equipment for ambulatory toddlers and pre-kindergarten-aged children and their parents/caregivers, 10-11:30 a.m. in the Big Gym at the TTUSD District Office.Baby and Me: Begins Friday, April 15Join these fun and educational classes for parents and non-ambulatory infants general aged 3 months to crawling/walking. Activities include music and play, education on health and child development, guest speakers and informal discussion. The seven-week series for infants will be held at the FRC from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The facilitator is Cindy Bansen, R.N., IBCLC, lactation consultant, and the cost is $84 with scholarships available.Your Amazing Baby, Infant Bonding and Massage: Begins Monday, April 11This six-week series is geared for parents/caregivers and infants, generally aged between birth and 3 months old. Learn infant massage techniques and deepen your bond with your baby. Massage helps your baby with digestion and improves sleep and immune function. You will learn to understand infant cues, infant crying and learn to relax with your baby. The series is facilitated by Gia Mandy-White, certified infant massage and bay yoga instructor, and will be held 10-11:15 a.m. at the FRC. The cost is $72 and scholarships are available.Parenting Book Discussion GroupCurrently reading andamp;#8220;Raising Happiness,andamp;#8221; by Christine Carter, you are invited to join community parents with children birth to five for this monthly Parenting Discussion Group. Utilizing current research, books and shared experience, we find inspiration, increase our knowledge and gain new parenting tools. These meetings are parent-driven and free of charge. The next meeting is on Thursday April 14, 6:30-8 p.m. at the Family Resource Center of Truckee, 11695 Donner Pass Road, Truckee.Loving Solutions Parenting Series: Classes begin as they fill upThis seven-week, research-based, parenting series is geared for parents of children four to ten years old. Join the series for education and tips that will help you build parenting skills through easy techniques. Utilizing a workbook format, group interaction and home activities for, parents will be able to start using tools at home after the first session! The English series will be led by Susan Bower, M.A. and the Spanish series will be led by Monina Vazquez, Peer Educator. The series is $125 with workbook and class materials included. Scholarships are available.Play and Learn in The Family RoomOpen Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m.-noon and Fridays, 9-10:30 a.m. Parents and children under 5 enjoy free activities, including art, stories, music and developmental play. Bilingual activities are offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-noon, Truckee Elementary School.Family Music with Todd Wees Join our local troubadour, Todd Wees, for the Todd Wees Music Experience. You and your birth to 5-year-old children will enjoy high-spirited sing and dance-along music. This seven-week series will begin Monday, April 11, 4 p.m. at the Community Arts Center on Church Street in Downtown Truckee.
