TAHOE/TRUCKEE – Approval of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District’s 2009-10 budget is expected at Wednesday evening’s school board meeting.

The meeting is set for 4 p.m. at Truckee Elementary.

The budget, complete with about $3.7 million in cuts made by the board of trustees this year, doesn’t include possible future cuts to the budget made necessary by California’s worsening 2009-10 budget.

The crisis could mean another $2.6 million in cuts for the district, which already laid off teachers and increased some parent costs, including a pay-for-transportation plan.

Time for the public to comment on the budget is allotted during the meeting. Also on the agenda is an update to the proposed parent pay transportation costs for next year and the possible approval of spending for playground equipment for North Tahoe Middle School.

The school, which is switching to a 4-8 model, now requires playground equipment since it will house elementary students.

A $33,148.50 contract with Miracle Playground Equipment is proposed for approval at Wednesday’s meeting for a new play apparatus.

According to the agenda, the project will be funded out of Measure R funds and not out of the general fund. Measure R is a 1999 bond which was passed for facilities upgrades on the lakeside schools, according to the school district’s website.
