Fire consumes Truckee residence on Tuesday

A structure fire Tuesday morning destroyed an estimated $1 million to $3 million residence in the Juniper Hills subdivision of Truckee.

Four fire engines, a water tender and an ambulance from the Truckee Fire Protection District responded to the fully involved structure fire at 11 a.m. at Walden Way, according to a fire district news release.

While in route, one of the district engines collided with another vehicle on Glenshire Drive, and one firefighter and a passenger from the other vehicle were transported by ambulance to Tahoe Forest Hospital for minor injuries, said Gene Welch, the district’s public safety and information officer.

Truckee Police said the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The fire consumed the residence and charred the surrounding landscape, but no neighboring properties were damaged, Welch said.

The property owner had left his residence to run errands. When he returned he saw smoke and flames coming from the center of his house, Welch said in the release.

According to Welch, putting out the fire took nearly five hours due to the volume of the fire and limited water supply.

Although the residence and its contents appeared to be a total loss, no one injuries were sustained in the fire, Welch said.
