Florian will seek third council term

Photo by Josh Miller/Sierra Sun Ron Florian announces his candidacy for town councilman.

After serving for two terms on the Truckee Town Council, Ron Florian announced Wednesday he will seek a third term in November.

In a prepared statement, the two-time mayor cited the council’s unfinished business – the General Plan update, Martis Valley development impacts, decline of Truckee’s community character, airport noise impacts and the airport land-use plan effects – as his reasons for candidacy.

Florian made the announcement in front of a small crowd of friends on the deck of Cottonwood Restaurant overlooking downtown Truckee. Also attending were councilmembers Beth Ingalls and Ted Owens.

In his statement, Florian said his seven and a half years of service have been fulfilling and challenging.

“As this election approaches, I realized I am not tired or bored…,” Florian said. “I realized I’m still having a good time.”

Florian has been a resident of Truckee since 1988 and is the owner of Florian’s Fine Wines and Specialty Foods in Truckee. He was elected to the town council in November 1996.
