Floriston Bridge work is delayed

Originally scheduled for this month, the replacement of the 47-year-old bridge on Floriston Way has been postponed to next year.
Crossing the Truckee River leading to the Interstate 80 underpass from the Floriston community, the bridge has been scheduled for replacement due to its age and condition, but federal funding for the $2.1 million project will not be allocated to the project until next year.
“Apparently there was a lot of demand for bridges this year,” said Doug Farrell, director of Nevada County public works. “But Caltrans tells us the project will be funded next year.”
Farrell said there is no danger created by not replacing the bridge this year as the project is a routine replacement. A temporary “Bailey Bridge” will provide access to Floriston while the new bridge is under construction, which is tentatively scheduled to begin June 2008, Farrell said.
