A former Tahoe Truckee Unified School District administrator has decided to make a run for the school board.Truckee resident Monty Folsom has thrown his hat into the ring for Dan Collin’s Area 2 school board seat in the November election.”I’d retired from the administrative environment of school districts, and I thought I have a lot to offer the school board in terms of a good community relationship,” Folsom said.Improved communication with parents and the community at large would help people understand how the school board and administration operates, he said.Folsom began working for the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District in 1991 as the business manager. During his time as the fiscal leader of the district, Folsom helped the school district deal with declining enrollment in schools, planning for the new bus facility, and budget and reserve shortfalls. He worked with the Department of Education’s state legal compliance committee on textbook adoption. In December 2003, Folsom, who lives in Prosser Lakeview, retired from Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and waited for his area’s seat to open up so he could run for school board. Collin, who currently serves Area 2 on the school board, has not announced whether he will seek a second term on the school board.Candidates must file forms expressing intent to run for office between July 12 and Aug. 6.
