Forest service begins pile burning near Truckee

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; US Forest Service pile burns are under way in the Alder Creek area.

The project, spanning from Hillside Drive down to Highway 89 north, is part of a broader fuel management effort on the northern edge of Tahoe Donner that has been ongoing for the last five years.

According to a release from Tahoe National Forest, burns will be completed in stages to aid smoke dispersal and limit smoke impacts on area residents, but smoke may be noticeable at times.
