Former Tahoe couple indicted

RENO (AP) ” A federal grand jury in Reno has indicted a former Incline Village couple on charges of running an Internet fraud scheme involving high-end appliances.

Nevada U.S. Attorney Greg Brower says Darin Jerome French, 36, and Jennifer Lynn French, 35, are charged with 21 counts of mail fraud, 63 counts of wire fraud, and aiding and abetting.

Authorities alleged the couple, who now live in Susanville, duped about 80 victims out of an estimated $1.5 million in 2003 and 2004.

Investigators say they falsely claimed to authorized dealers of the appliances, and advertised items for sale on the Internet. They then charged customers’ credit cards or cashed checks for items the customers never received.
