INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Next weekend, residents can turn in their unused or expired medication for safe disposal.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, IVGID Waste Not and Incline Village Community Hospital are joining forces to provide the Incline Village and Crystal Bay communities with a safe, secure method to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

The Incline Village/Crystal Bay Rx Drug Roundup will take place Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Incline Village Community Hospital Community Room, 880 Alder Ave.

At the last drug roundup day, in fall 2014, more than 86 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter drugs were collected, according to IVCH

“The misuse and improper disposal of prescription drugs is a growing, under-recognized problem in our community,” hospital officials said. “Easy access to medication encourages misuse. Improper disposal of drugs by flushing or discarding with solid waste can potentially harm our water sources and threaten wildlife.

“It is very important to dispose of unwanted medication in a safe manner.”
