Gearing up for the rodeo
Sponsorships are available for this year’s Truckee Championship Rodeo, held Aug. 8 and 10. The Sponsors’ Team Penning will be held on Friday, August 8 at 6 p.m.
Sponsorships will provide businesses with advertising exposure throughout Truckee and the surrounding area, according to rodeo organizers. Sponsor packages have been delivered to all the previous rodeo sponsors. If returning sponsors haven’t returned their pledge sheet or actually sent their check, they run the risk of losing their spot for this year. Sponsorship coordinator Sherry Hagemeier can be reached at 269-7718 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers are needed to help with the rodeo in a variety of positions.
Volunteer meetings are held the first Monday of each month, at 6:30 p.m., at the Best Western Truckee Tahoe Inn. Starting July 7, meetings will be held every Monday, until Aug. 4, at the McIver Arena on Old Brockway Road and Highway 267.
Please call the rodeo hotline at 582-9852 for more information.
Applications are being accepted for the Truckee Championship Rodeo Queen Pageant, held Aug. 3. Applications may be obtained at the American Mail Center in the Safeway shopping center and the Truckee Chamber of Commerce in downtown Truckee.
Completed applications must be submitted before June 15. Contestants cannot be younger than 17 or older 23 years of age as of Sept. 1. Contestants must never have been married or pregnant, be a legal resident of the State of California, and not have been a previous Miss Truckee Rodeo. Contestants will be judged in three categories, all of which are equal: horsemanship, personality and appearance.
This year’s queen contestants will have the opportunity to participate in several events prior to the pageant, including but not limited to the following, the Reno Rodeo Parade in June, the Town of Truckee Fourth of July Parade, Cannibal Cruise events, as well as other public appearances. Contestants will also participate in the Truckee Championship Rodeo Grand Entry to each performance. The winner of this year’s pageant will also have the opportunity to compete in the Miss Rodeo California Pageant in September 2003.
