General planning on the Web

As part of an outreach program, the Truckee general plan update Web site is up and running.

The general plan is a mission statement for the town, and this update will guide land use and development in the town over the next 10, 20 or 30 years.

At the first general plan update meeting in September, town planners identified the need to use various techniques to gather public opinion.

The Web site – – includes links to the full text of the 1996 general plan, as well as other documents like the housing needs analysis and an economic strategy report.

In addition, the Web site provides access to surveys associated with the general plan update.

Email addresses and phone numbers are provided as well.

Other information, like the four candidate firms selected by town staff to act as consultants on the project, is available.

“All information available to the public over the counter will be available on the Web site,” said Duane Hall, Truckee town planner.

The general plan update process will take between 18 and 24 months to complete, and the town is hoping, with tools like the Web site, to involve as many people in the community as it possibly can.
